Night Shift vs. GH - WTF?

Yep, I'm going to say that a lot in this blog. WTF? I have NO CLUE what to say about the apparent integration between Night Shift and GH. Granted, Halloween is my busiest season for my business and maybe I missed something somewhere that explains all this, so please comment if that is so - so I can stop saying WTF???

Did Bradford and others not state that Night Shift was an apparent "alternate universe" from regular GH? I'm pretty sure I didn't dream that! So if so, how are they planning to explain the following since it seems that many of the storylines have hopped from the netherworld into daytime TV:

1) During the dark of night, did Spinelli suffer from schizophrenia and forget his love for Lulu? How else can we explain his chase of Jolene and his subsequent virginity-losing romp in the O.R.? During the day, Spinelli seems to still be as in love as ever with Lulu, and if we ARE to assume the crossover of his bed hop with Jolene (which we would have to since she is now ON GH, wouldn't we?), would he not discuss his heartbreak with Lulu? Or did "Jolene's Spinelli" remain in the alternate universe? But if he did, how do we explain his discussion of Jolene's horrid deeds to her sister? Jolene's terror tirade on the patients and staff of GH crosses over but the romance between she and Spinelli DOESN'T? WTF? Which leads me to.....

2) Jolene's sister has shown up on the GH canvas (and conversely, we have no way of knowing that Jolene won't come out of the coma!), but Spinelli made no mention to the Angel of Death's sister that Jolene had saved his life. Does that mean the shootout in the E.R. scenario remains in the alternate universe?? How can that be if Jolene is in a coma? HOW did she get in the coma if we don't include the shootout?? Dr. Julian is still injured, so there MUST have been a shootout, right? WTF?

3) Getting off the Spinelli topic a bit here, but what about the rest of the storylines?? Does "Anna" the baby exist for Robin in the daytime GH universe? Or is there an "alternate Robin" still left out there in the ether? Robin and Patrick had similar reasons for breaking up on GH, but there was no mention of it being because of the baby storyline from Night Shift. WTF??

4) Will Touissant show up on GH? Or does he have just ONE being - that of Night Shift? So that means no romantic storyline for Epiphany? WTF????

5) If both shows are supposed to somehow "gel" (and I'm sorry, they DO NOT), when the hell did anyone sleep?? Everyone was working the night AND day shift! No wonder Robin and Patrick broke up! And how can SOME stories crossover but others NOT? WTF!

There are lots of WTF moments like this if they plan on trying to integrate these two shows, which I NEVER thought was the plan. The biggest question in terms of this blog is still - how are we supposed to justify all these actions for Spinelli?? Are we supposed to assume he banged Jolene at night and made breakfast for the blonde one when the sun came up? That he was chasing the "Angel of Mercy" and talking to Stone Cold about his feelings for her at night while pining away for Lulu during the day, heartbroken and dejected when he learns she is sleeping with Logan? Why would he care if he was doing the horizontal mambo with Jolene?

I sit and stare at the TV and wonder how they expect us to swallow all this. But then again, it's Guza. Why am I surprised? WTF indeed!

It's still surprising me that people are so upset (and confused) about GH and NS being integrated. It doesn't matter what was said by TPTB in the beginning: that the shows would remain separate. There were clues all along on both shows that the "parallel universe" thing wouldn't hold up. It's all marketing. If you've been watching GH long enough, experience teaches that what's said and what actually happens are often times two very separate things. And, if you watched NS and GH, imho it shouldn't be such a big deal that they've been combined. Because you know what happened in both imaginary worlds. On this hybrid GH, take or leave whatever stories you like/don't like. If you didn't watch NS, I guess in terms of TPTB, the joke's on the viewers. Was the risk to GH (meaning, confused and p.o.'d fans) worth it? Only time will tell.

Rene,

Yes, the shootout happened and Spin talked about it.. (You must have missed some of the show) Dr. Leo came in shot up and Spin talked about how Jolene had saved his life. He didn't say he had sex with her, but I assume he did, since everything else happened (Stacy, the elevator, etc.) and what would motivate her to save him if they hadn't gotten "closer"?

It IS confusing though. I am thinking that the only thing that DIDN'T happen may have been Maxie's heart condition (???) and Leyla and Patrick's relationship is just starting on GH, while they were having sex on NS.

Hey Spikey,

I was actually being sarcastic about the shootout. I knew Spin talked about it - but I didn't recall him talking about Jolene saving his life on GH - just NS. Maybe I did miss that part. And has Stacy and the elevator been mentioned on GH?

That's why I assumed the fact that Jolene saved Spin's life was being left out of GH. Otherwise, why would Spin not mention it to the sister, if for no other reason than to make her feel somewhat better about her sibling's misdeeds? That's a very "Spin" thing to do.

Jolene could have been shot in the ER rampage without having saved Spin - and by leaving that part out, you can leave out the relationship between Spin and Jolene.

Just my thoughts, anyway.

P.S. - I do think it's a HUGE deal that the stories are integrated, anonymous. GH is not giving me the option to "take or leave" the stories I like or don't like - THEY are deciding what to leave and what not to. If you like a coherent storyline, this is preposterous. And I've watched for 28 years - it's one thing to say a story is going one way and then doing a complete 180 (I kind of like it that way), but to create story that completely contradicts the rest of the show, and the characters, is ridiculous and something I've never seen happen on GH - I hope they find it WASN'T worth it. I enjoyed NS by itself, but this is ugly.

Rene, yeah, the elevator and Jolene saving Spin's life were mentioned at the end of Friday's GH. (at the end of a very excellent episode, my favorite in a few weeks)

(from the Transcript site)

Epiphany: Jolene sabotaged this hospital, and if she hadn't been shot, she would've killed even more patients.

Spinelli: All too regrettably true, yes.

Epiphany: Murder is murder.

Spinelli: Yes -- no, and the Jackal understands the formidable one's firm stance. But, remember, the not-so-fair Jolene did -- she did save my life. She threw herself in front of a bullet that was meant for me.

Epiphany: Maybe Jolene knew that she was caught and chose to take the easy way out.

Spinelli: I would like to think of her differently.

wow there is a lot of catching up to do.. I was really confused whe I watched Monday's episode (I think it was Monday's) It seemed like an episode of Night Shift. The 'merging' of NS and GH would have worked if they had at least worked o the inconsitancies.. (Jason being in jail, Lulu vs Jolene. Some things don't mesh)

Thanks, Spikey - see, I'm too confused! LOL!!

ALLLL of this aside - I think I'm leaning toward a Georgie/Spin romance. I can NOT believe I'm saying that. So maybe the Jolene/Spin hay romp doesn't mean a thing if he ends up with Georgie. They are UBER CUTE together!! Lulu is turning into too much of a ho-bag for my taste these days. I can't believe I'm saying that either...

Rene,

Yeah, I am getting tired of Ms. Lulu myself. Spinlu still zing together at times, but the friendship is way too one sided.

Maybe later they can go back to it, after they both grow a bit?
