Adorable...But a Waste of Talent

Anytime Bradford/Spinelli hits the screen, it's a beautiful thing. But yesterday, it was a waste of talent. I mean, W-to-the-T-to-the-F? (Sorry, comes with having a teenager in the house).

Is this what we get from now on until Spinelli hits Night Shift? "Spinelli reporting live to anyone who will listen on 'The Little Stone Cold One'?" PUHLEZE! His whole presence yesterday was nothing more than a means to an end (another slap in the face for Sam as she comes to realize that half the town knew about this baby and wondering to herself if her new show should be called "Everyday Morons.") They might as well have let Bradford phone it in that day.

Sorry, but I am just SO TIRED of seeing GH (specifically GUZA) destroy a litany of talent, only to continue writing inane and RIDICULOUS storylines and (dare I even use the term) DIALOGUE for these boobs that remain. Gloria Monty wouldn't have stood for this. She would have seen Bradford for the talent he is and written him to the hilt! Just ask Tony Geary!

Okay, rant over....But if I'm stuck in a summer of "Loogie," then I guess I'll be watching a lot of VH-1 reality TV - Flavor of Love anyone?

BRAVO :)

That really expressed what I feeling yesterday. I was happy he was on the screen but they really seem to be wasting him.

I try to think positively -- maybe Bradford needed a few days off, so they granted it to him...maybe? I appreciate the passion of your post! I hope the writers are reading this!

I'm going to have to disagree with this. :)

I think Spin has had the best character arc of any on GH in the months that he's appeared. This is a character who is not in a bubble, but gets to act with all the GH heavy weights (see my vid, FEELS LIKE HOME, listed below) He was target of a mob hit, his grandmother is that lady from "Little House on the Prairie" . He is given the most airtime with Centerteen, Lulu, (more than the guy she's suppose to be paired with Logan, more than Dillon, who was the father of her aborted baby and who they destroyed Georgie/Dillon relationship for.

Today we hear directly from Sam's mouth that Jason trusts Spinelli completely--Yes, the Great Jason of GH. Without going into details, The spoilers next week show us that Spin is going to be involved with Sonny, and in an exciting sweeps climactic moment at the Penthouse. Rumors are buzzing, they are asking about Spinlu in focus groups etc. He has a big role on NIGHT SHIFT.

We are lucky! I am so glad that we get this much airtime and such an incredible storyline. This is as good as it gets for GH.

Just my opinion.. :)

I agree we are lucky. Many people don't get a 10th of the screen time we get. I am so excited about night shift. I just don't trust the people who wrote this Liason baby storyline and Mr Craiging of Jerry.

Hi Spikey! :)

I certainly respect your take on this matter, but I think it greatly hurts the actors and the characters when they throw them into what is basically a "throw away" scene. (Take this from someone who has worked with people from TV, independent film and from being friends with someone who worked in an Academy-Award winning film!) I would rather see Spin get LESS air time that is quality than to just throw him in there for good measure - and that's all that scene was the other day.

I agree, we have been extremely fortunate to have him on screen as much as he has been, and it's a good sign that SOMEONE (and I don't believe it's Guza) thinks he's a true talent. It probably also has a lot to do with the other cast members wanting to work with him.

I respect Bradford Anderson as an actor, and I think it is demeaning to him to throw him into a scene that just makes him a means to another end. It did not propel his character forward in any way, show us anything more compelling about who Spinelli is - I want him to be used to his fullest capacity when he's on screen.

JMHO! :)

But, IMO (respectfully) that scene that we are talking about wasn't a throw away. This is Sam finding out that the baby is Jason's. It was a huge moment, and as she told Amelia (the next day) Jason trusts Spinelli completely. (which we were getting, but it's nice to hear) I thought it did propel the character.

I love to see Bradford on screen. He does well with the script he is given. I am afraid that eventually he will get bored if they don't show more of his abilities, instead of making him keep repeating the same lines over and over. If he is not allowed to branch out, he may leave. With his diverse talent he could work about anywhere he wanted to. If this happens GH would be losing the best actor they have had in many years! Personally, I would find that very sad.

You're always respectful, Spikey! :)

I think, even though we disagree on THIS particular scene, that we can both agree that they need to dig more deeply into Spinelli as a character and into his past. Like "anonymous" said, if they keep having him repeat the same things over and over, he will grow weary of the character (especially coming from such a strong theatrical background playing very deep and layered characters).

HOWEVER! It sounds like Night Shift is going to give him that opportunity, and he seems very excited about it from what he says on his web site. So let's both enjoy him in his new venue and hope we get a lot more depth from our beloved Spinelli! :)

Rene,

On this we can agree. I haven't counted but it felt like Spin (and Lulu) had gone into a rut, saying the same things about the baby over and over again. (I just didn't think that particular scene qualified as the rut, since there was movement)

I will say that Bradford is getting Buzz. I've seen that the media critics are mentioning a daytime nomination for next year. Also, for a character whose not been on long, getting "Performer of the Week" is quite unusual, I would think.

We have got the e-mails and saw his blog. He seems happy with the show right now, and as long as he's getting this much positive press, I don't see him going anywhere. (I hope)
