The State of Spinelli

I had high hopes for Spinelli's involvement in Lulu's kidnapping, but sadly it has certainly become more about the Johnny/Lulu/Logan triangle. Unfortunately, Spinelli got zero credit for doing basically all the work to find her! He was the one who got the call from Lulu, he figured out where she was, he was able to get into the monestary, he found Lulu and Johnny when they were trapped, he kept himself from being taken and then managed to figure out where they took Lulu and Logan, and THEN he's the one who got Jason, who kept Johnny from blowing Lulu up! But no credit. No aftermath. Just four straight days of NOTHING.

So what does this mean for Spinelli/Bradford? It seems as though he has plenty of fans, if Super Soap Weekend and Fan Club Weekend are any indication, his co-workers have nothing but glowing things to say about him, and the management of the show has also professed great liking for Bradford and Spinelli. Then why does he seem to get the short end of the stick in storylines? He's never been seriously considered for a romantic storyline (let's face it, they KNEW they were going to kill Georgie...), plays second (or third...) fiddle in rescue attempts, and then goes days without any scenes. Something doesn't add up...

It seems to me that the story of Spinelli has been "missed opportunity" since day one. There have been innumerable stories and scenes that could have opened the door for some backstory or characterization, but nothing leaves the ground. Why is this? Why, if Bradford is so well looked upon and Spinelli is so wildly popular, do they continue to leave him in the shadows, restricted to "supporting actor" status, practically a recurring role at times?

My question to you is: should we be worried? What can we really do to make a change here? I do not think it's as though they just don't value him, so what can we do as fans? Anything...?

Your comments are right on the money. I think the problem is that Bradford doesn't have what is considered "Soap" looks and therefore he will never be in the role that he deserves. I mean, Bradford has more talent is his sexy little pinky than the rest of the cast has put together. Mark my words...one day in the next few years, Bradford will be a Tony award winning Broadway star. I just know it.

Should we be worried? YES. Should we still attempt to do someting about it? YES

Bradford and his fans deserve better. We deserve an actual storyline.

I think he MIGHT have been on vacation last week. The way the clips were put together seemed like they were pre-taped. Could be that the Scab writers have a hard time writing Spinelli. He's been sick alot but then he can speak Latin, and that scene with Diane was sublime.

We'll see what his airtime is like next week.

My best advise is to keep at the show, call write.. Don't know if it does any good but it can't hurt.

Still...

Call me Polly-anna.

I think it's been good for Spinelli that he hasn't been paired off and put into a box. It hasn't helped Kate or Logan at all. Frankly, Lulu has suffered for it.

If you are only a couple, then that's the character identity. Spin has been around everyone, he has clear chemistry with many many characters. He is popular on his own--not because he's part of a couple, and that's a good thing.

He's been established as a character for a year, we DO know quite a bit about him. We know Granny raised him and that he has abandonment issues. He and Jason are like brothers. He's very heroic and misunderstood. He's a genius. Lulu has named him as her best friend and someone she can't live without. (I guess that's true considering that she'd be dead many times over if Spin didn't come running when she called.) We know if he likes you, you can't have a better friend. He is loyal to a fault. Vulnerable. He's had alot of tragedy in one year. Jolene-- Georgie. He feels no girl will ever love him again, which is an awesome set up for him to find love--and gives him an underdog rooting factor.

It may be a mistake, but Spinelli is the one character that GH has NOT done wrong.

Still, like I said, keep supporting him. It can't hurt at all. Also, Jenna is going to LV, maybe she can get some news about where his character is going.

I believe that complacency will get us no where and I don't feel we have gotten that way we need to remember that contract players left and right are being let go ether by their own hand or by the writers. I have a big campain planned for the sweeps. (thought it would be a great time to have a targeted campaign)

I hope to post about it tomorrow so people can get prepared..

I call the comment line everyday, I have sent letters and assorted fan-support type things, but I wonder how much difference it really makes from one person. I look forward to your campaign, Penny!
