Damian Spinelli 2.0: A Theory/Story Possibility

So I've been contemplating yesterday's scene between Spinelli and "the new doc/love interest for Maxie" - who shall heretofore be known in this post as "Dr. Smug McBlanderton" (I do NOT like this guy, nor do I think he is "hot.") Apparently, we are being led to believe from Dr. McBlanderton's comments that Spinelli may have some medical condition that has perpetuated the personality known as "The Jackal." I know there have been many comments regarding this possibility. Here are some of my opinions on why this scene might have been written - my opinion only, of course. :)

For your consideration, I believe the following is evidence that Guza is gradually testing the waters for a Spinmax pairing, or, at the very least, a maturity growth spurt for Spin:

1) No doubt, GH has been bombarded with letters, emails and calls to the comment line regarding a future for Spin and in particular, a future for Spinmax. We know from Penny's relentless and loyal pursuit right here on this forum that it is most assuredly happening. Perhaps some big-wigs are finally perking up.

2) I refuse to believe that ABC would be showing that summer promo featuring Spinelli and Maxie, "Do You Believe" if they had no intention of at least entertaining the possibility of SpinMax. Guza is cruel, to say the least, but that is over the top even for him.

3) I believe the scenes with Spin as "Mini Jax" were also a test to see how fans reacted to a more mature, suave and, dare I say, sexy Damian Spinelli. I haven't visited all the forums to view the results, but I'm pretty sure I heard a collective "squee" from Spin fans.

Now if Guza and the Gang are hearing all of this clammer:

a) A "growing up" of the Spinelli character.
b) A romance, in particular a romance with Maxie (but let's be honest, at this point, we'd love him to just have a ROMANCE!)

What are they to do? While I know throwing a story arc right off the rails and disregarding all history of a character is Guza's strong suit, perhaps even he knows that having Spinelli go to bed as the Jackal one night and waking up the next day SORAS'd into a mature, adult Damian Spinelli would be just TOO much....unless.....

THE THEORY/INTERESTING STORYLINE POSSIBILITY!

All right, so we know "Smug McBlanderton, M.D." was brought on board for a Maxie romance. It is summer, though, so we need to spice it up a bit. WHAT IF....

Spin goes home and thinks about Smug's comments about a possible "medical condition" for his extreme geekdom. He doesn't want to think about it, but he can't stop. He's longing for a way to become the man Maximista so desperately desires, but being the grasshopper to Stone Cold, he doesn't want to consider such an easy way out. He can do this ON HIS OWN. Admitting a medical condition would be weak. He stresses most of the summer, trying various other methods to prove himself to Maxie, only to fail miserably each time.

All the while, Maxie and Dr. McBlanderton grow closer, perhaps spurned into conversation because of Smug's growing concern for Spinelli's medical condition and the fact that Maxie is his best friend. They spar, Smug believing he knows what's best, Maxie sure that Spin is just fine like he is. They fight, they argue, they storm off....and they grow more turned on with each encounter.....

Now, just as they are about to pursue the full bloom of a true, soapy romance, just in time for November sweeps, Spin gives in and decides to receive medical treatment (medication, surgery, laser treatments, whatever...) and WAHLAH!

Spinelli 2.0 - bigger, better, stronger, faster - and less nerdy. He's all the wonderful, kind and loving things from original Spinelli with new, improved and less-annoying upgrades.

Maxie is intrigued. More than intrigued. She is suddenly seeing Spin in a new light. He smiles, and her panties go up in flames. Smug McBlanderton, M.D., who thought he had a sure-fire inroad to Maxie's boudoir, has now inadvertently created a rival for her affections. OH THE IRONY! And so the triangle begins....

On a final note, in MY world, Logan and Smug end up in a fight on the CGI hospital rooftop, perhaps over who is the worse actor. Lulu tries to break it up and all three plummet to their deaths on the streets below, thus ending the Maxie/Spin/Smug triangle, ending Lulu's bitchy, catty remarks to Maxie, Logan dying with Lulu, which would make him happy, and Smug....well he is McBlanderton, so no one much cares...including him.

well from what i am understanding there might not even be that much matt and maxie as some think. i dont think we should really jump to conclusions about what guza is doing.

Remember, I said it was a "theory" and an "opinion." :)

I'm more interested in Spin's backstory than watching another triangle where Spin is the one on the outside.

I am not wanting to relive Spinlu two, so if that's what they are doing then BORED NOW.

Anything that veers from that is all good.

Yes, but in THIS scenario, Spin actually has a shot at Maxie - that was NEVER the case with Lulu. Spin, would be an actual contender - Maxie would actually have a hard time choosing between Spin and Smug (though why it would even be a contest, I don't know, but that's the nature of GH!).

Plus, figuring out that there may be an actual medical reason for some of his "issues" would also open up the possibility for a backstory - why is he like this? Is it hereditary?

I love Dr Smug's name.. LOVE it

I just still it sometimes when I am not behaving myself.

I agree with spike i just don't want another Spinlu mess. I don't mind Spinelli and Maxie making a few relationship mistake on their way to each other though.
